In my final post about Dubai, I’ll be sharing the things I think you should do and where to stay while in Dubai. This is everything you need to know if you are planning on visiting Dubai.
I’ll start by saying that Dubai has its peak and off-peak seasons and based on my experience of both seasons are expensive but generally, the peak season seems to be cheaper which is MAY-OCTOBER when the weather is hot, and everyone is out and about. If you are one who is not interested in the extreme heat, then NOVEMBER-APRIL will be perfect for you.
After deciding when you want to go the next step is to apply for a visa especially if you carry a Nigerian passport (Canadians do not need a visa to visit Dubai). The visas cost between 120USD to 150USD, and the process isn’t daunting. All you need to do is contact a travel agent who will then apply on your behalf. This is what I did travelling from Nigeria.
Now we need to find a flight ticket to Dubai, on this trip I flew Emirates Airlines directly to Dubai which was a 6-hour flight, but you can decide to use Ethiopian, Kenyan, EgyptAir or whatever airline fits your budget. The important thing is you get to Dubai safe.
Talking about Hotels, Dubai has a wide variety of hotels that you would be spoilt for choice. Well, that was the problem my mum, and I had, but we ended up going to a hotel in Deira for a few reasons. It was close to her conference, it’s an area we are both familiar with, it was close to a train station, and it gave us a lot of value for our money. Generally, hotels in Deira are cheaper than hotels in the downtown core but feel free to explore on booking.com, Airbnb, and other websites.
I ended up staying at The Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers.
Now we are ready to go to Dubai, and we need to talk about what to do while in Dubai.
DAY TRIP TO ABUDHABI
I highly recommend taking one of the day trip tours to Abu Dhabi. It’s a good way to see the other emirate without staying in the city. It costs about 480 AED, and you get to see the Grand Mosque, Emirate Palace Hotel, and free lunch. I think it’s worth so think about adding this to your itinerary.
DUBAI PARK AND RESORTS
This is the Disney world of Dubai; they have a Bollywood theme park, Lego land, Lego land water park, Motion gate studio and Six flags coming at the end of 2018. This is a go-to place if you are visiting Dubai with children or big babies like me.
We have all seen those beautiful pictures of people in deserts whenever they visit Dubai. Well, this is where those pictures are taken. I think the ride on the dunes is my favourite part of the whole trip. You get to ride ATV’s in the dessert, henna tattoo, eat Emirati food and just vibe with fellow tourists.
GOLD SOUK/SPICE SOUk
The men might not care for this but ladies this place is about to take you to jewelry heaven. You don’t need to buy anything you could just go to feed your eyes and dream. The spice souk is also a heaven for great spices if you take your spice game serious.
DUBAI AQUARIUM/DUBAI MALL
Kill two birds with one stone by visiting the Dubai mall and also visiting the Dubai Aquarium. The Aquarium is a beautiful addition to your Dubai mall experience, take some time out to enjoy the animals of the sea that you might not get to see on a norm.
There are a bunch of other places that you could visit ( Wild Wadi, Global Village, Dubai Miracle Garden, Dubai Marina) while visiting Dubai but this is my top/go to places.
Have you visited any of these places? Do you find these type of posts helpful? Let me know
